Lovejoy News

Summer 2006:   Welcome to the latest installment of Lovejoy news and of course the most important news item this time is the release of the brand new Lovejoy CDEP “England Made Me” on Matinée Recordings….Yes, no last minute copyright delay, no hitches with sleeve art, no record company irritating, samples to clear and no petulant tantrums from any Lovejoy members or associates all add up to mean that against the odds we have recorded and completed a release within the space of 8 months, which is most definitely a record (no pun intended) for us, and rather a pleasant surprise! It’s all down to the wonderfully efficient Matinée Recordings of course, who have worked so hard to make the EP look and sound very cool indeed and from where the first copies are shipping, even as we speak….Of course if you prefer to actually go into a real live record shop you may have to wait a week or so, but the official release date was 10th July, so copies should be on their way very soon. Contact us directly or go to Matinée if you have trouble getting hold of a copy.

So, here’s the press release for England Made Me”:

Impressive follow-up to last year’s ‘Everybody Hates Lovejoy’ album featuring four great new songs. Lead track ‘Brightness Falls’ is perhaps the finest Lovejoy song to date, mixing keyboards and jangling guitars in a twinkling pop hit with ace vocals from Lovejoy supremo Richard Preece. If we lived in a just universe this would be blasting from car stereos all summer long in place of the latest inane hip hop flavor-of-the-week. ‘Are You Analogue or Digital?’ sports a bit of the pesky electronica that first showed its face on the popular ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ set and also rather nicely recalls the sparkling pop of The Human League, while ‘In the Rain’ is a lusciously paced and mesmerizing cover of the mid-80s indie hit from The June Brides. ‘Made in England’ closes the EP in top form, layering guitars, strings and percussion alongside a rhythmic vocal track with angelic backing—a return of sorts to the chiming orchestral pop of Lovejoy’s debut album ‘Songs In The Key of Lovejoy.‘ Hurrah! Limited to 1000 copies in custom minijacket sleeve.

Yes, as you might imagine we are pretty excited about the EP too, but if you want to give it a listen before you commit yourself to shelling out for a copy, head over to Matinée and you’ll find lead track ‘Brightness Falls’ on the sounds page…We’re also assured that the song is already receiving airplay on more discerning radio stations around the world, most notably in Sweden, our cultural home. Honest.

OK, that’s all for this time, there will be another news update in the next few weeks, so check back soon and in the meantime, enjoy the new EP!
