Lovejoy News

Summer 2002:   Welcome to the latest update of the Lovejoy website. It’s been a while, so there’s quite a lot to report, starting with the most important news:

The new Lovejoy album ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ will be released by Matinée Recordings on the 26th August 2002. The artwork is finally completed, licenses have been received, the track listing is decided and everything is being pressed and printed as we speak. There are nine songs, and already Matinée are getting excited and describing it as Lovejoy’s strongest release to date, making comparisons with The Wake and New Order, so hopefully this bodes well for us. As mentioned before, the album will now not be released on vinyl, due to a variety of problems, but CD format does apparently make the release much more accessible to most people, so hopefully we’ll sell many more CDs than we would have done records.

In order to celebrate the release of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ Lovejoy (well Dick, actually) will be playing a rare live show (acoustically) on Saturday 24th August at RoTa, which is at the Notting Hill Arts Centre, Notting Hill Gate London. This is alongside other Matinée bands The Windmills, Pipas and Would-Be-Goods. And best of all, apparently it’s FREE! (But don’t quote me on this). Check the Matinée site for details nearer the time…

To commemorate this and other Matinée shows this summer, Jimmy at Matinée is producing a 12 track Matinée sampler CD called ‘The Matinée Summer Splash’ which features ‘You Fell From Grace’ by Lovejoy taken from ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ Apparently this CD will be sold at the RoTa show and will be ridiculously cheap.

There is a possibility that Lovejoy will play live again this year, possibly in London, or Brighton, or even astoundingly enough in Sweden. It could of course (knowing us) be none of the above, but either way there should be more news on this next time.

There’s also another two compilations just coming out, featuring Lovejoy songs. Both of these are released exclusively in the Philippines, one is a Universal Records compilation ‘I’d Spend My Day With You’ and features ‘Butter Wouldn’t Melt’ from ‘Songs In The Key Of Lovejoy’. It’s actually a really good CD, featuring 20 bands including Birdie, Trembling Blue Stars and Club 8 amongst others. The second CD is released by an indie radio show ‘The Fridge’ and features ‘Night On Earth’ from ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ Other featured bands include Club 8, The June Brides and Brideshead. Apparently it will come with a fanzine as well. There are a very few of both of these compilations available direct from Lovejoy. Contact us by email for details.

Elsewhere, Dick and Keith are busy writing a new Snowbound fanzine (hopefully this will be available at the RoTa show). And despite recent setbacks, The Snowdrops might be in action again soon (heaven help us) and Lovejoy are writing new songs and hope to record again before too long.

In the meantime enjoy what’s left of summer!
