Lovejoy News

November/December:   Welcome to the Lovejoy website. The main news this time concerns the very exciting release of the shiny new Lovejoy Christmas single on Matinée Recordings, festively titled 'A Christmas wish' EP. (Catalogue No. Matinée 025). The single is available from the last week of November, and has received rave responses from those who have already heard it!. Astoundingly, the new release of the new single coincided with a live acoustic performance by Lovejoy (more details below), so all in all its been a very exciting time for us recently!

'A Christmas Wish' EP features three brand new songs; 'I Dream of Angels', 'Snow Falling Softly', and 'Snow Falling Softly' (Bent Fabric Mix). It was recorded last Summer ( we drew all the curtains in the studio, and shared Christmas cake and mulled wine in an effort to create a festive mood…), and it features contributions from Dick, Ally, Keith, and Paul. We think it's the best Lovejoy record so far, and hopefully you will too, mainly because the songs are so good, but also because the sleeve features a Christmassy picture of Dick sliding down a snowy hill! Oh, theres also a specially written Christmas insert as well…So why not put it at the top of your list to Santa? You can order direct from Matinée (who might even throw in a Lovejoy badge with your order!), or from your local independent record shop, or electronically by contacting (amongst others) Parasol, Twee Kitten, Pennyblack etc…

The live show occured on Sunday 26th November, at the Chapel in London. Lovejoy played an acoustic set alongside The Pines and My Hairdresser for President. It was part of the Matinée POP Spectacular event, and was the first ever Lovejoy gig! It was an excellent afternoon, despite the almost non-existent PA (thanks to Roy from the Windmills for the use of his equipment). Thanks also to Sean at Fortuna Pop, and of course Jimmy at Matinée for orgainising it all, and everyone else for being so nice!!. There should be some more Lovejoy live dates next year, and next time we will try to put them on the website BEFORE the show takes place... It all happened so quickly this time that we couldn't finish the update quickly enough... (there's always an excuse...)

Other news is that the debut CD 'Songs In The Key Of Lovejoy' came out at the beginning of October. It is now available easily using the addresses mentioned above, and has been very well received so far. The CD contains 10 pop classics, ranging in styles from pop-punk to indie pop to cool, ambient synthesised sounds… and as an added incentive, it's packaged in a gorgeous Edwardia sleeve!!

Recently Dick and Keith have also been continuing their work with Snowbound (see other projects page). For the last three months we've DJed at the 101 bar in Brighton, under the name 'Crepescule'. Contact snowbound for further details. Also on Snowbound, to coincide with our second Birthday, we produced a mini fanzine to give away at the above mentioned Matinée POP spectacular. It's strictly limited in copies, and won't be genearally available, so sorry about that, but there are plans to develop a more accessible electronic fanzine next year.

Well, that about wraps it up for this time, and this year to be precise. Watch out for the next update in January/February, which should contain some exciting news of Lovejoy's first release of the year…plus more news on Snowbound's latest shambolic developments!

All that remains is for Lovejoy to wish you all a merry Christmas, and a happy New Year!
