Welcome to the first installment of the Lovejoy website. Lovejoy are in the process of recording new songs for a second single to be released on Matinée recordings. The new record is intended to be a Christmas single. This means that we are aiming for a mid-November release, so that it should be available everywhere by December. As there is an element of festivity surrounding this idea, it is only proper that there should be an element of surprise surrounding the content and packaging … so cross your fingers and make a (very early) Christmas wish, then wait and see!
By the time you read this the debut LP 'Songs in the Key of Lovejoy' should have been released through Matinée (see releases page). It was described by Jimmy, who runs Matinée, as 'a masterpiece.' This was possibly - although by no means necessarily - after quaffing the magnum of Champagne that Lovejoy had ensured would arrive at the same time as the master tapes…
Lovejoy, of course, despite being very pleased with the album, are prevented by modesty from making any such description. Hopefully the critical response will match that of the few individuals who have already heard it. There are ten new songs, all of which were a joy to record, ranging from the almost ambient, dreamlike "Sunset Sky,' through the full, strummy acoustic pop of "A Taste of the High Life,' not forgetting the indiepop-punk sound of 'Thank Your Lucky Stars.'
Also on the cards over the coming months is a live debut for Lovejoy. Initially there won't be a full band sound as heard on the records … rather, to keep things simple, an acoustic rendition of the songs currently available, plus one or two surprises and possibly surprise guests… There are no dates available yet but September/October in London looks most likely so far. Check here or at the Matinée site nearer the time. It is quite likely that as well as performing live, Lovejoy will play some records at certain discos and events over the coming months. Again, more news should follow in the next update.
Finally, the debut Lovejoy single, "A Taste of the High Life' EP is still available, having been received very well in the UK and the States. Once it has sold out, it won't be repressed, so don't say you haven't been warned…
Until next time…
