Lovejoy News

May 2004:   Ah… Spring has finally sprung, the days are getting slightly longer and slightly sunnier, even slightly warmer... so now seems as good a time as any to provide you with the latest titbits of news and information from Lovejoy HQ. Oh, and we’ve got a new single out as well.

Although it may not seem like it to the outside world, it’s been a busy year so far on the Lovejoy front; We’re getting towards the final stages of completing the third Lovejoy album, provisionally titled ‘Everybody Hates’. It will eventually be released through Matinée Recordings, who will announce more details nearer the time, so check out their website. With this new record we wanted to develop the Lovejoy sound further without repeating ourselves and although we’ve achieved this, we think that in many ways this album will be both the most adventurous yet archetypal Lovejoy record to date. The artwork is also underway and hopefully, if all goes to plan, the album should be released towards the end of the summer. We’ll keep you posted…

In the meantime, there is the imminent and exciting release of our fourth 7” single to look forward to. This time around it’s a two track single featuring on one side ‘Strike A Pose’ and on the other a version of the TVPs classic ‘Someone To Share My Life With’. The different sides of this record show the finely balanced juxtaposition of styles that our musical influences have placed us in and we think this makes for very good listening pleasure! This is also the first release on Alistair Fitchett’s brand new Unpopular Records. It’s a limited, numbered pressing of just 500 copies, and will never be repressed so get hold of yours soon! It’s a very exciting project for us to be involved in and we’ll provide more details on the release date and how to get hold of it, as soon as we have them. The artwork on Unpopular Records is highly important to Alistair and he commissioned artist Emily Ryan to provide two different images so that there are two sleeves available…check out the link above to see more.

In other news, we know we keep going on about possible gigs here and there, often without coming up with any actual dates or venues (and when we do, it’s usually too late as it’s been and gone anyway), so here is a first for us:

Lovejoy WILL be playing at the Revo9 organised ‘We and You’ festival in Malmo, Sweden on either the 23rd or 24th of July. This Year. There is a website (in Swedish) from which further details can be gained, or alternatively drop us a line at snowboundipc@yahoo.co.uk and we’ll try and help with any info you need. Please note, once again this will be a solo acoustic show featuring Dick and his guitar and NOT a full band.

Lovejoy also feature as Matinée Artist Of The Month on the Matinée site for April / May, so check out the updated pages there, including an MP3 of an exclusive rough mix of ‘Nicotine And Love’ from the upcoming Lovejoy album. There’s also a link to view a video of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ recently made by Alistair Fitchett. You’ll need the latest free version of Quicktime to view this. We’ll also place a link to the video from this site in the near future. There is also a poll to find the most popular Lovejoy song released on Matinée, so go visit!

Finally, the Snowdrops, in time honoured tradition, will be delaying the release of their forthcoming ‘Sleepydust’ single on Matinée, for technical reasons, which means we want to do some remixing and perhaps even add a new song to the EP. Hopefully the single will still be out by the summer.

In the meantime, enjoy the sunshine!
